Why work with your strengths and weaknesses

In order to achieve good results, it is often not enough to improve your physique or e.g. increase your absorption of oxygen.

You should look at your entire day and life as a whole, where there are a number of priorities you should make.

You should consider how important cycling is for you. Where in your sequence of priorities do training, exercise riding or bike races belong?  How do you prioritize competitive or exercise races in relation to other activities in life such as: wife/girlfriend, children, education, job/career, domestic duties, financial circumstances etc.

When this sequence of priorities has been determined, you will have a better view of your priorities and can plan your business from here. Regardless of where cycling is in your sequence of priorities you have chosen a sport, which takes time and costs both effort and money. Therefore it is a good idea to consult with your family and circle of acquaintances first.

If you are a pro level rider, then practically your entire spare time is aimed towards training, eating, sleeping, which very much affects your energy after training. This should be communicated to your closest relatives.

On the other hand, if you are at the other end of the scale, where you perhaps train 2-3 times a week or simply are considering starting, it might be possible to combine family/girlfriend with an active life on your bike without major changes during your week. However, it is most important to try to involve your closest relatives in your thought process as regards to making an effort to develop as an exercise or competitive racing cyclist.
